On February 3, 2025, Cal Poly Civil Engineering student Corinne Watson and Environmental Engineering student Sierra Hollinsworth were among twenty-seven students honored by California lawmakers at the state capitol in Sacramento. This recognition celebrated their outstanding achievements and contributions to their respective fields.
Accompanied by Cal Poly President, Jeffrey D. Armstrong, the students were introduced on the floors of both the Assembly and Senate. Senator John Laird and Assemblymember Dawn Addis, who represent districts encompassing San Luis Obispo County, facilitated the introductions. President Armstrong praised the students, stating, “Our students are already making a difference, showcasing their hands-on learning and skills developed through national competitions and extracurricular endeavors.”
The event highlighted Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” philosophy, emphasizing the practical experiences that prepare students for successful careers. Watson and Hollinsworth exemplify this approach, having distinguished themselves through academic excellence and extracurricular involvement.
This annual recognition not only honors individual accomplishments but also highlights the university’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates poised to make significant contributions in engineering and environmental sectors.
