After earning an impressive 7 national championship victories over the past 13 years, the Concrete Canoe team is heading back to nationals to try and reclaim their title and earn a three-peat! Since the 1960s, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student chapters have designed, built, and raced canoes made of concrete! Students take the initiative to tackle the complex assignment through project management and innovative design choices that perfectly exemplify Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” philosophy.
During last year’s journey to nationals, the Oceana team faced several obstacles, but ultimately came together to put in a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication that paid off in the end. The team won the overall title by finishing in the top three of the competition’s four sections: oral presentation, technical proposal, final product prototype, and racing.
