We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Bing Qu as our new department chair! Dr. Qu brings with him a wealth of expertise and experience, having been an invaluable member of the civil and environmental engineering department since 2008.
Dr. Qu’s academic journey began with his Bachelor of Science degree from Tongji University, China, in 2001, where he continued his academic pursuit with a Master of Science degree in 2004. Dr. Qu furthered his education by obtaining his Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, in 2008.
With his solid educational background and extensive research experience, Dr. Qu has made significant contributions to our department’s growth and success. His expertise lies in seismic design, analysis, evaluation, and retrofit of steel structures, as well as the progressive collapse performance of building structures. His research interests extend to bridges crossing earthquake fault rupture zones, seismic analysis of nonstructural components, and the innovative field of interlocking compressed earth block walls.
Dr. Qu’s dedication to academic excellence and his commitment to fostering collaboration make him an ideal candidate for the role of department chair. He is eager to work closely with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and sponsors to achieve our collective goals and leave a lasting impact on the department.
