Bio
Dr. Navid Changizi is a Lecturer in Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He earned both his Master of Science and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering, Optimization, and Computational Modeling.
Before joining Cal Poly, Dr. Changizi was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Connecticut, where he contributed to a project focused on designing plate heat exchangers using advanced optimization methods. Prior to that, he completed a postdoc at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where he applied optimization techniques to develop an algorithm that solved the governing parameters of a mathematical model of cancer.
Dr. Changizi teaches courses on mechanics of materials and related structural engineering topics. His teaching philosophy emphasizes interactive learning and the practical application of concepts, aiming to equip students with the skills needed to excel in the engineering field. His research interests lie at the intersection of structural engineering and advanced optimization, where his expertise can be applied to solving complex interdisciplinary systems.
