Bio

David VanMuyden is a full-time lecturer and Director of the Granite Heavy Civil Minor. His teaching focuses on Construction Engineering and Construction Management within the Heavy Civil Sector, including roads, bridges, tunnels, dams, and other infrastructure-related projects. Mr. VanMuyden is the Faculty Advisor for the Heavy Civil Club and coaches the Heavy Civil Student Competition Team through ASC in Reno.

Mr. VanMuyden spent the first 14 years of his career working for a local Heavy Civil Contractor, building roads and bridges for the State and local agencies. He began as a Project Engineer, promoted to Project Manager in 2017, and served as the Construction General Manager from 2021-2025. He maintains a part-time role in industry which serves as a vital role in keeping his curriculum current and relevant for students. He lives in Los Osos with his wife and four children, enjoying family road trips, camping and mountain biking.
