"Cal Poly Steel Bridge is a competition team consisting of undergraduate Civil Engineering students. Every year team members work together to plan, design, fabricate, and construct a one-tenth scale model steel bridge to compete at the Pacific Southwest Conference and the National Student Steel Bridge Competition.
The Student Steel Bridge Competition increases awareness of real-world engineering issues such as spatial constraints, material properties, strength, serviceability, fabrication and erection processes, safety, esthetics, project management, and cost. Success in competition requires the application of engineering principles and theory, and effective teamwork. Future engineers are stimulated to innovate, practice professionalism, and use structural steel efficiently."
