Concrete canoe is a unique opportunity that allows students to gain practical, hands‐on project experience, helping them to become a better engineer. Each year the concrete canoe team competes at Pacific Southwest Conference. The project itself involves constructing a full‑scale concrete canoe, developing a written technical paper, conducting a presentation on the project to a panel of practitioners, and racing canoes head to head against other universities across the nation. In 2017, the Cal Poly Concrete Canoe Team placed first in the nation at the ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition! Additionally, for the past 11 out of 12 years, the Concrete Canoe Team consistently placed in the top five at the national competition, including 3 consecutive championships from 2010 to 2012. The team looks forward to working with volunteers throughout the year at our Open Shed Fridays and Paddling Practices to help creative an innovative canoe that will excel at competition!
