The available equipment allows for testing of aggregates, concrete, mortar, masonry, and wood samples. However, courses taught in the facility focus on concrete. Students typically learn about concrete mix design, strengthm and durability.
The Kiewit Civil Engineering Materials Laboratory is primarily used for the testing of fundamental materials used in civil engineering and construction. This laboratory has received a sizeable donation from Kiewit to purchase and update some of the equipment and to make some renovations to the facilities. Kiewit is one of North America's largest and most respected construction companies.
