NSF Awards Grant for Servo-Hydraulic Test Machine
May 22, 2007
The National Science Foundation has awarded Cal Poly $190,500 to acquire a 110,000 lb (500 kN) capacity materials testing machine manufactured by MTS Systems Corporation.
The test machine has state of the art controls and data acquisition and is capable of mechanically testing a wide range of materials and components in tension or compression, monotonically or cyclically, and up to rates of 10 inches/second (250 mm/second).
This test machine will enhance the testing ability for the entire College of Engineering and will serve as the centerpiece of Civil Engineering's new 2400 square foot Pavement and Advanced Materials Laboratory due open September 2006. The machine will particularly aid students in their senior projects and master's theses.
The faculty PI's on the grant proposal include Drs. Dan Jansen (CE/ENVE), Ashraf Rahim (CE/ENVE), Joseph Mello (ME) and Faysal Kolkailah (AERO).
